What is SEQUEST?
SEQUEST is a Incorporated group of volunteers that provide a monitoring service on the CB & Marine
emergency channels and also represent enthusiasts to various
government agencies on matters that may affect the CB and
emergency channels.
Is SEQUEST an Emergency Response Service?
NO WE ARE NOT!
Our primary role is the monitoring of CB & Marine radio Networks
Those that wish to respond to emergency situations are advised to join the following:
State Emergency Service
They are always on the lookout for new volunteers!
Can SEQUEST provide First Aid Advice over Radio?
SEQUEST Volunteers can NOT offer First Aid or Medical Advice over the radio under any circumstances.
If necessary we will contact the Queensland Ambulance Service or a Doctor and relay any advice they may have. | What does SEQUEST do when they take a radio call for help or someone needing assistance?
When a Operator takes a call over the radio, We gather information using close questioning techniques so we can assist in responding the correct services to assist those in need of assistance.
Not only we assist with people needing emergency assistance. We also provide weather updates over the radio when weather warnings are issued by BoM.
we also assist with people lost needing directions to people just wanting a radio check
What are the objectives of SEQUEST
To serve and provide assistance to the citizens of south east Queensland through the use of the CB and Marine radio network
1: Emergency Communications involving the immediate safety of Life ,Property ,Environment
2: To provide communications support and/or support personnel to emergency services and organizations during times of need and/or when requested
3: To provide community organizations with safety communications and/or personnel to assist in safety roles, as required, to help ensure the safety of persons participating in activities and members of the community.
What qualifications or experience do I need to join?
None! Those joining as a Radio Operator will be trained in basic radio
procedures and monitoring techniques. Where you reside in any existing Division or Monitor capable of training you in person,
arrangements will be made to complete the training by online so you are not required to travel great distances just to
attend a training weekend. If you join as an Associate Member, then
there is no training involved as this is a non-operational form of
membership.
What equipment do I need to join?
If you wish to become a Radio Operator you will need to have at least a UHF
CB, and acess to a telephone service, preferably close to the radio setup, is also
required for Operators. In some circumstances SEQUEST may be able
to help with short term loans of equipment. Uniforms are optional and
are not required by any member unless they choose to buy one. Where
uniforms are required for any reason we will endeavour to make these
items available at a reasonable cost. Associate Members need no
equipment at all to join.
Is SEQUEST authorised to monitor CB emergency channels?
In Australia there are no restrictions on who may or may not monitor the CB emergency channels or respond to calls. Any person
has the legal right to do these if they so desire.you canbe in a Group or be Independant
IS SEQUEST Registered?
We are a non-profit organisation, incorporated in QLD and
registered with ASIC as an Australian Registered Body. It is also
endorsed as a Public Benevolent Institution by the Australian Taxation
Office.
Are donations tax deductible?
Yes. We are endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a deductible gift recipient
which means that all donations or gifts to the value of $2 or more are
an allowable deduction for income tax purposes. |
